Instructions

  • Line a baking sheet or 9x9-inch baking tin with parchment paper.
  • Break the pretzels into halves and/or thirds with your hands or knife. Evenly spread the crushed pretzels across the lined baking sheet or tin.
  • In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the dark chocolate chips and coconut oil. Microwave on high for 20 seconds, then stir and repeat until the mixture is smooth.
  • Pour the melted chocolate over the crushed pretzels, sprinkle salts on top, and place the baking sheet or tin in the freezer for 20 to 30 minutes.
  • Once the chocolate is set, remove the parchment paper from the tin, and use a knife to cut the chocolate sheet into various random sizes.
  • Store the dark chocolate pretzel bites in a plastic bag or airtight container in the freezer. Enjoy!

Notes

Melt the Chocolate in Intervals: This is my #1 tip. When melting your chocolate in the microwave, heat in short 20 to 30-second intervals and stir frequently to prevent the chocolate from burning. Patience ensures a smooth melt without overheating.
Melt Chocolate on Stove: To melt chocolate on the stovetop, create a makeshift double boiler by placing a heatproof bowl over a pot of simmering, not boiling, water. Ensure the water doesn’t touch the bottom of the bowl. Stir the chocolate in the bowl continuously until it’s smooth and entirely melted, maintaining a gentle heat to prevent overheating.
Chocolate Choice: Try milk or white chocolate instead of dark.
Coconut Oil: Use butter or vegan butter.
Vegan Option: Choose vegan chocolate chips or a bar and pretzels.
Nutty: Add chopped almonds, walnuts, or hazelnuts.
Festive: Add mini M&Ms, mini marshmallows, and festive sprinkles.
Storing: For best results, store this chocolate pretzel bark in an airtight container or plastic bag in the freezer to maintain its freshness and prevent freezer burn. When ready to enjoy, let it sit at room temperature for a few minutes to slightly soften before serving.
The nutritional information below is calculated as if there were 12 servings for this recipe. For me, after I cut the bark, each serving is about 4 pieces of bark.
