This air fryer halloumi is crispy and golden on the outside, soft in the middle, and takes 8 to 10 minutes at 380°F. Cut the block into ½-inch slices, skip the pan of frying oil, and finish it with a drizzle of honey for a sweet-and-salty appetizer or side dish.
Olive oil, avocado oil spray, or 1 teaspoon of olive oil
Honey or hot honey, for serving (optional)
Instructions
Preheat. Heat the air fryer to 380°F. Don't skip this; a cold basket makes the halloumi stick and adds several minutes to the cook time.
Slice and dry. Cut the block into ½-inch thick slices. Pat both sides dry with a paper towel, then lightly brush or spray with oil.
Arrange. Place the slices in the preheated basket in a single layer with space between each one. No overlapping. Cook in two batches if needed.
Air fry. Cook for 8 to 10 minutes, flipping halfway through with tongs. Add 1 to 2 minutes if you want them crispier. They should be deeply golden, not browned to the point of burning.
Serve hot. Transfer straight to plates and drizzle with honey, or add to a salad. Halloumi turns chewy as it cools, so serve within 5 to 10 minutes.
Notes
Cut and timing: Thicker cuts need longer. Cubes at 1 inch take about 12 to 14 minutes; ½-inch fries take 9 to 11.Buying halloumi: Look for sheep's and goat's milk if you can find it. Cow's milk blends work but soften more.Season after cooking: Halloumi is already salted from the brine, and dry seasonings scorch at 380°F.Storing: Air fry only what you'll eat. Leftovers keep in an airtight container for up to 3 days.Reheating: Air fryer at 350°F for 3 to 5 minutes. Skip the microwave, it turns the cheese rubbery.
