Why You'll Love This Recipe
- Only 4 Ingredients: You only need avocados, onion, cilantro, limes (and, of course, a dash of salt).
- No Tomatoes: Perfect if you’re not a fan of tomatoes.
- Ready in Minutes: It comes together fast, making it ideal for last-minute snacks or party prep.
- Naturally Vegan & Gluten-Free: A healthy dip everyone can enjoy!
The Ingredients
- Avocados: Make sure they’re ripe but not overly mushy. I used large Hass avocados for the best texture and flavor.
- Onion: Finely diced red or white onion adds a nice bite and crunch.
- Cilantro: Fresh cilantro gives this guacamole that classic, herby flavor.
- Limes: Fresh lime juice adds brightness and a tangy kick.
- Salt & Pepper: Just a pinch of each to bring all the flavors together. I don't count this as a real ingredient since it is a pantry staple 🙂

How to Make 4-Ingredient Guacamole
- Step 1: Add all the ingredients to a mixing bowl
- Step 2: Use a fork to mash the avocado to your desired texture. I like mine a little chunky, but you can make it as smooth as you like.
Hint: Don’t forget to taste and adjust the seasoning—add more lime, salt, or cilantro to suit your taste!
Expert Tips
- Choose ripe avocados. They should feel soft but not mushy—this makes mashing easy and gives the best texture.
- Use fresh limes for both juice and zest. The zest adds a bright, zesty punch that really boosts the flavor—you won’t want to skip it!
- Control the texture. Mash gently to keep some chunks or mash more for a smoother guacamole—whatever you prefer!
Substations & Variations
- Gluten-Free: This recipe is naturally gluten-free, so no changes needed!
- Dairy-Free & Vegan: This recipe is already vegan and dairy-free.
- Nut-Free: This guacamole is nut-free.
- White Onion Substitute: Try using red onion, yellow onion, or finely chopped green onions.
- Cilantro Substitute: If you’re not a fan, leave it out altogether.
- Add Garlic: Stir in a small clove of minced garlic for an extra burst of flavor.
- Make It Spicy: Add more jalapeño or a dash of cayenne pepper to give your guacamole a spicy kick.
What to Eat with Guacamole
Guacamole is incredibly versatile and pairs well with a wide range of foods. Try it with tortilla chips for a classic snack or with veggie sticks, such as carrots, cucumber, and bell peppers, for a healthy crunch. It’s also perfect as a topping for tacos, fajitas, burrito bowls, quesadillas, or grilled chicken. You can even spread it on toast or use it as a flavorful dip alongside your favorite Mexican dishes.
Storage
To keep your 4-ingredient guacamole fresh, transfer it to an airtight container and store it in the fridge. It will stay good for 3 to 4 days. To help prevent browning, press a piece of plastic wrap directly onto the surface before sealing the container.
Frequently Asked Questions
If you don’t like cilantro, you can leave it out or substitute spring onion.
Yes, guacamole usually lasts about 3 to 4 days in the fridge. You’ll know it’s gone bad if a layer of brown liquid forms on top and the guacamole turns gray.
Brown guacamole is safe to eat as long as it’s less than 3 to 4 days old and doesn’t smell bad. The browning happens when avocado enzymes react with oxygen.
I don't reccomend freezing guacamole because it can change the texture and become less appealing after thawing.
