I've always been a spicy margarita person-like if it's on a menu, I'm ordering it. But most mango margaritas I've tried out are either way too sweet or taste like a sugary mix.
So I started making my own at home, and after testing different versions, this one is the most balanced-sweet, slightly spicy, and not heavy or syrupy.
It's naturally sweet from the mango, has just enough heat from the jalapeño, and doesn't leave you feeling weighed down after one drink.
If you love my skinny spicy margarita, this is basically the tropical version I make all summer. And when I want something creamier, I'll switch to my skinny piña colada-it's totally different but just as good.

What is a Spicy Mango Margarita?
A spicy mango margarita is a sweet and slightly spicy cocktail made with mango, tequila, lime juice, and jalapeño, served on the rocks or frozen.
Why You'll Love This Cocktail Recipe
- Not overly sweet: The mango adds natural sweetness, but the lime and jalapeño keep it bright and balanced-not syrupy.
- No mixes or added sugar: Everything is made with real ingredients, so it tastes fresh and clean.
- Blended = better texture: This isn't a watery margarita-blending makes it smooth, slightly thick, and way more satisfying.
- Easy to tweak: Add more jalapeño for heat, more lime for tang, or more mango for sweetness, depending on what you're craving.
- Great for 1 or a group: Make a single drink in minutes or scale it into a pitcher-it turns out every time.
Ingredients You'll Need
You only need a few simple ingredients, but each one plays an important role in flavor and texture.

- Mango (fresh or frozen): This is what naturally sweetens the margarita and gives it that bright, tropical flavor. Fresh mango tastes lighter and juicier, while frozen mango makes the drink thicker and more slushy.
- Tequila (blanco/silver): A clean, smooth tequila lets the mango and lime shine without overpowering the drink. It's the same tequila I use in my skinny spicy margaritas.
- Fresh lime juice: Adds that classic margarita tang and balances the sweetness from the mango. Always use fresh-it makes a big difference in flavor.
- Orange juice or mango juice: These replace sugary mixers and add a little extra sweetness. Orange juice makes it lighter and more citrusy, while mango juice makes it more tropical and rich.
- Jalapeño: Brings the heat. Muddling it into the juice gives you a clean, fresh spice without making the drink bitter or overpowering.
- Tajín (or salt, for the rim): Totally optional, but it adds a salty, tangy finish that makes the whole drink taste more like a classic margarita.

Easy Substitutions & Variations
- Make it frozen: Blend with frozen mango and ice for a thicker, more refreshing frozen margarita.
- Make it a mocktail: Leave out the tequila and add a splash of sparkling water for a refreshing, non-alcoholic version.
- Adjust the spice level: Use fewer jalapeño slices (and remove seeds) for mild, or add more slices or a dash of hot sauce for extra heat.
- No jalapeño? Skip it for a classic mango margarita, or swap in serrano if you want more heat.
- Orange juice or mango juice: Orange juice makes it brighter and more citrusy, while mango juice gives a richer, more tropical flavor.
How to Make Spicy Mango Margaritas (Step-by-Step)

- Step 1: Rim the glasses with lime, then dip into Tajín (or salt) until fully coated. Set aside.

- Step 2: Add fresh juice and jalapeño slices to a shaker or glass, then muddle well to release the spice (then remove them).

- Step 3: Add mango, tequila, and lime juice to a blender with the infused juice.

- Step 4: Blend until completely smooth and creamy (no chunks).

How to Make It Frozen
To make a frozen spicy mango margarita, blend everything with frozen mango instead of fresh to create a thick, slushy texture.
- Use frozen mango: This gives the best thick, icy consistency.
- Blend until smooth: Add mango, tequila, lime juice, and jalapeño-infused juice.
- Adjust the texture: Add ice to thicken or a splash of juice to thin.
- Taste and tweak: More mango = sweeter, more lime = brighter.
Expert Tips
- Muddle, then remove the jalapeño: Muddle it into the juice to infuse flavor, then take the slices out so it doesn't get overly spicy or bitter.
- Use ripe mango (or frozen): If your mango isn't sweet, the drink falls flat. I usually grab frozen-it's easier and gives a thicker, better texture.
- Start with less spice, then build: Jalapeños vary a lot. Blend first, taste, then add more if you want more heat.
- Finish with fresh lime: I almost always add an extra squeeze at the end-it brightens everything and balances the sweetness.

What to Serve With Spicy Mango Margaritas
Spicy mango margaritas pair best with fresh, flavorful dishes that balance the sweetness and heat. I love serving them with:
- Grilled boneless skinless chicken thighs - crispy, savory, and perfect for summer.
- Baja shrimp tacos or bowls - especially anything with lime, avocado, or salsa.
- Chips with guacamole or mango habanero salsa - easy and always a hit.
- Fresh salads - something crunchy and citrusy balances the drink, like my Summer avocado corn salad.

Yes-mix everything ahead and store in the fridge. Just stir well and add ice before serving.
Yes-frozen mango works great and actually gives a thicker, slushy texture. It's the best option if you want a frozen margarita.
Blanco (silver) tequila is best because it's smooth and lets the mango and lime flavors shine.
Yes-skip the tequila and add a splash of sparkling water for a refreshing mocktail version.
How to Make a Pitcher for a Party
To make a pitcher of spicy mango margaritas, simply scale the ingredients and mix everything ahead of time for easy serving.
- Multiply the recipe: Scale ingredients by 4-6, depending on your group.
- Muddle, then remove jalapeño: Infuse the flavor, then take it out so it doesn't get too spicy.
- Mix or blend: Stir for on-the-rocks or blend with frozen mango for a slushy version.

Spicy Mango Margarita
Ingredients
Spicy Mango Margaritas
- 3 ounces (⅓ cup) fresh orange juice (from 1 orange) or mango juice/nectar
- 1 medium jalapeño, sliced (remove seeds to reduce spiciness)
- 1 large ripe mango (peeled and cubed) or 1 ½ cups frozen mango
- 3 - 4 ounces (~ ½ cup) silver tequila, also called Blanco tequila
- 3 ounces (⅓ cup) fresh lime juice, about 2 - 3 large limes
Garnishes
- Slices of fresh jalapeño
- 1 lime, sliced
- Tajin seasoning, for the glass rims
Instructions
- Add a Rim to the Glasses: Add tajin onto a small plate. Wet the rim on your two glasses by rubbing a lime wedge around the top edge, then dip it into the tajin. Set them to the side.
- Infuse Spicy Mango or Orange Juice: In a cocktail shaker or sealable glass, add the fresh orange juice (or mango juice) and jalapeño slices and muddle them by crushing the peppers with a muddler or the back of a spoon. Vigorously for 30 seconds and then strain and pour into a high-speed blender.
- Regular Mango Margarita: Add the fresh mango cubes, tequila, and lime juice, to the blender with the spicy orange or mango juice and blend until completely smooth. Taste and adjust the flavor by adding more orange juice or mango for sweetness OR more tequila if you prefer a strong margarita. For an extra-spicy margarita, add ½ teaspoon of hot sauce.
- Frozen Mango Margarita: Add the FROZEN mango, tequila, and lime juice, to the blender with the spicy orange or mango juice and blend until completely smooth. Add 4 - 8 ice cubes and blend (add more ice until you get your desired consistency). Taste and adjust the flavor by adding more orange juice or mango for sweetness OR more tequila if you prefer a strong margarita. For an extra-spicy margarita, add ½ teaspoon of hot sauce.
- Serve: Pour into your tajin-rimmed glasses. This recipe makes 2 margaritas. Garnish with lime wedges and extra jalapeño slices. Enjoy!
